• Cyanite.ai by Mannheim-based startup Groovecat is releasing a new iOS app that provides music suggestions for videos.
  • Cyanite PLAY thus offers a new form of music discovery that is intuitive and works without any keywords.
  • The iOS app detects the situational context of videos via Computer Vision and links the results to a smart music database.
  • In addition to private use, it can be used for commercial purposes such as advertising, film and social media.

Mannheim & Berlin, 10 September 2019 – Accessing and listening to music has never been easier and more diverse than today. We have direct access to over 200 million songs and every day 24,000 new songs are uploaded to Spotify alone: that’s 17 new songs per minute. However, this great variety also makes it difficult for music listeners and professionals to find the right music for their individual use case.

The team around Cyanite.ai has set itself the goal of making the perfect music for every situation and mood easier to find. Since the launch of the music analysis tool CYANITE two months ago, almost 300 users have performed over 2,000 song analyses. With Cyanite PLAY, the young startup now publishes a worldwide new way to discover music. Instead of using filters such as genre, mood or activity, Cyanite PLAY enables intuitive music discovery based on an actual situation.

For this, users simply records a video of their surroundings or selects an already saved video. They then choose one of 14 possible moods which fit the situation. With the help of an AI-based image recognition software, the situational context of the video is recognized and linked to the selected mood. A smart music database is then used to suggest songs that could fit this situation on the basis of objective criteria.

Cyanite PLAY is a further step by the company to facilitate the complex and often complicated music search, especially in the B2B area, and to support decision-makers in music selection. “We have been dealing with the difficulty of not knowing what to look for when it comes to music for a while. With Cyanite PLAY, we are releasing a completely new approach of discovering music without actively searching for it,” says Markus Schwarzer, co-founder and CEO of Cyanite.ai and Groovecat.

About Cyanite.ai

The company Groovecat with its music analysis tool CYANITE is a combination of the music industry, data science and software engineering. The mission of the young startup is to support decision makers in the creative industry by using objective tools of music analysis to relieve them of the often tedious and subjective selection of songs. The special feature of CYANITE is the unique data set with which the search engine is trained. Its three dimensions of music, mood and situation originate from the company’s own music app Groovecat, which allows their users to capture music moments. The emotional and situational effect of music is thus validated by users. The team applies its academic and technological knowledge in the areas of signal processing, image recognition, neural networks and deep learning.
